Deputy Marshall Receives MADD Award

Towns County Deputy Sheriff Mark Marshall received another award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for his efforts at curbing impaired driving in Towns County. He had the most arrests and convictions for DUI’s during the last quarter. This is the fifth such award Deputy Marshall has received.
The quarterly award is presented to a law enforcement officer in each agency who has proven to be the most productive at catching drunk drivers during each period.
Every year, over 40,000 people die in accidents nationwide in which alcohol is a factor. Many thousands more are injured. This number is down only slightly from the mid 1980s when almost 50,000 deaths per year were attributed to drunk driving. Education, prevention, and strict enforcement of DUI laws are keeping the numbers down despite a growing number of drivers.
Thanks to the efforts of law enforcement officers, this number continues to drop. However, there are still an alarming number of vehicle crashes directly related to alcohol use.
The Towns County Sheriff’s Office wishes to recognize deputy Mark Marshall and all of our deputies, as well as other officers in the area, for their continuous efforts to battle this problem. Congratulations and thanks for a job well done!
