Young Harris College to Present Staged Reading of ‘Wit’
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright to attend and lead panel discussion

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Theatre Young Harris and the Division of Humanities will co-present a staged reading of Margaret Edson’s 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit, on Tuesday, Feb. 2. The free event will begin at 8 p.m. in Glenn Auditorium of the Clegg Fine Arts Building on the Young Harris College campus. No tickets are required, and the event is open to the public.

In this profound and humorous play, renowned English professor Dr. Vivian Bearing reassesses her life and her work after being diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer.

The staged reading includes Young Harris College students and faculty, as well as two guest actors in the lead roles.

The playwright, Edson, will be in attendance for this special event and will lead a panel discussion following the performance. The discussion panel also includes a health communication scholar, two physicians, two women with different types and stages of cancer, the director of Regency Hospice in Hiawassee, Ga., and a historian well-versed in Wit and its use in medical schools across the country.

The play contains some adult language and is recommended for mature audiences.

Theatre Young Harris is a performing arts organization of Young Harris College. Each season, the theatre company presents a full lineup of notable productions, including full-length musicals, innovative dramas, classic plays, children’s shows and more.
