Jane Goodall, Ph. D., DBE, the foremost authority on chimpanzees and helped redefine the relationship between humans and animals, began her work in Gombe, Tanzania in 1960 under the leadership of Dr. Louis Leakey, famous anthropologist and paleontologist . Dr. Goodall attributes her dedication and insight to her work and her mission in life to her mother, internationally known author, Vanne Goodall.
Dr. Goodall has received numerous awards and honors, including the UN Messenger of Peace, the Gold Medal of Conservation from the San Diego Zoological Society, the National Geographic Society Centennial Award, Japan’s Kyoto Prize, UNESCO’s 60th Anniversary Medal and the J. Paul Getty Wildlife Conservation Prize for helping to promote the importance of wildlife conservation to life on this planet. In 2004, she was given England’s highest honor, Dame of the British Empire, and in 2006, she received the French Legion of Honor.
Dr. Goodall has expanded her global outreach with the founding of the Jane Goodall Institute based in Ridgefield, CT. She now teaches and encourages young people to appreciate the conversation of chimpanzees and all creatures great and small. She lectures, writes, teaches and continues her mission in many inventive ways, including the Chimpanzee Guardian Project.
Dr. Goodall’s observations and discoveries are intemationally heralded. Her research and writing have made, and are making, revolutionary inroads into scientific thinking regarding the evolutions of humans. Dr. Goodall has also authored a number of books. My Life with the Chimpanzees, In the Shadow of Man, and Through a Window are among the many titles. Much of her current work is now carried on by the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation that is based in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
