Opinion — By Staff Report on June 22, 2010 at 11:31 amMy name is A.J. Moore and I live in Rabun County. I was previously a proud supportive member of the Republican Party and was active in surrounding counties such as Towns County. I was very envious of the Towns County Party because they followed the rules and promoted good will. Unfortunately, changes were made and illegal practices occurred in Rabun and Towns Counties, including violations of Republican Party rule 2.22 on page 12, in-acted by the State GOP in 2009, regarding support of candidates prior to the Primary election. Political signs were being damaged, removed and replaced with an opponents signs. This is a violation of State law as well.
The public became disenchanted with leadership in both major political parties, and many have become active in alternative grass roots groups. The illegal practices continue. Signs have been put up in Towns County by candidates with permission from the property owners only to have them replaced by opposition candidates signs that seemingly the local Towns GOP is supporting. Some signs are blocked or damaged. During the previous election, I observed one member of the Republican Party violating these rules.
I sincerely hope the Republican Party leadership will investigate and stop any illegal practices they may find before the matter winds up in the courts.
A.J. Moore
