Sid Berkstresser, Jr.

Sid Berkstresser, Jr., age 83 of Hiawassee, GA, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Bell Minor Nursing Home in Gainesville, GA.

Sid was born in Gadsden, AL to the late Sidney Earl and Buena Rhea (Gilland) Berkstresser. He was a WW II US Army veteran and moved to this area in 1973 from East Point, GA. Sid was a member, Deacon and choir member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Hiawassee, GA 30546. He was retired owner of Berkstresser Realty.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Cooper Berkstresser, of the home, sons, Sid Berkstresser, III of Lawrenceville, GA, and Bruce Berkstresser of McDonough, GA, and daughter, Anita Hedden of Flowery Branch, GA, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Don Pickerell offficiating. Music was by Mary McFarland and Michael Hedden. Pallbearers were Ralph Turner, Neal Cody, David Keating, H. W. Keaton, Jim Lamb, Tony Branon and Gunther Peters. Honorary Pallbearers were Art Kiser, Dr. Lanier Nicholson and Deacons of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. Interment was in the Osborn Cemetery.
