Investigators nab suspect within 12 hours
On the evening of February 1, a Towns County homeowner discovered that they were the victims of perhaps one of the largest single home burglaries in Towns county. Towns County Sheriff’s deputy Derrick Richards was dispatched to the scene and Detective Lt. Brian Wilson arrived shortly after.
Among items taken were a very large projection television, Cub Cadet Utility vehicle, furniture from several rooms, outdoor power tools and other items. The quantity of items was so large that the perpetrators allegedy spent two days completing the burglary. The home owner and detectives estimated the total value of the stolen items to be into the tens of thousands of dollars. Lt. Wilson and Detective Curt Donaldson quickly developed information which led them to a residence in north Hall County.
Detective Wilson developed a lead from physical evidence found at the scene which led detectives to Hall County. The suspect was interviewed and warrants were sought for his arrest as well as search warrants for a location in White county. White and Hall county authorities were contacted to provide assistance. During the course of further inquiry by detectives a quantity of illegal drugs in Hall county was found and this led to an even larger scope of investigation.
The investigation into both illegal drugs and stolen property led to the cooperation of three separate jurisdictions becoming involved in the case. Within a day’s time, detectives for two agencies were issued two separate search warrants for locations in both Hall and White counties. Some of the larger items stolen from the Towns County residence were recovered and have already been returned to the homeowner.
One suspect is in custody and warrants have been issued for a second. There are also narcotics arrests stemming from this case in other counties. Daryl Boykin, 41, Hall county, is in the White County jail awaiting transfer to Towns County, and Steve McDonald, 44, of White county has also had warrants issued for his arrest in connection with this case. Certain aspects of this case are still under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
